Four years ago this month, the world changed. It was confusing and scary and nothing was normal. School was closed. We were working from home. New terms like ‘social distancing’ were being used all the time. Toilet paper, hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes were hard to find. It was a time we will never forget.
For my family there was an additional element to consider. My wife Keri was pregnant with our son that we would name Ben. We were excited but also worried about keeping everyone healthy. We didn’t know what would happen.
One afternoon in the middle of March 2020, I was driving with my daughter, Stella. It was spring and like every year fields of wildflowers were growing around San Antonio. We decided to stop. Now more than ever, we needed something beautiful.
This is one of my favorite pictures of her. A copy has been in a frame by our bed since that day.
