Pumpkins Growing In The Backyard

Will They Make It To Halloween?

Earlier this spring, my three year old son decided it would be a good idea to plant pumpkin seeds in the backyard along the fence line. I had little hopes anything would grow. After a few days of watering and a curious toddler looking at the mud, it started to sprout! It was a combo of low heat and rain that lead to a few vines growing out of the ground. A few days later we had some big green leaves as well. The latest came as a big surprise. I looked out the window this week and saw a large bright colored flower! I had no idea pumpkins grew flowers. Actually, I’m getting ahead of myself as there are still NO pumpkins. But I have a feeling one might be on the way.
