COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS

There is much talk in the news about the pronounced “learning loss” that is affecting K-12 students post-pandemic. In addition, there are many students who struggle because they lack basic school supplies, food, and clothing, and therefore attending school can be a challenge. All this impacts the most vulnerable kids – who may face hunger, homelessness, and trauma. Fortunately, there is an organization dedicated to helping students inside schools and beyond – wherever support is needed. For years, Communities In Schools® (CIS®) has worked in schools across the country to provide students with what they need to help them thrive. This includes placing caring adults, site coordinators who know the obstacles students are facing, by their side to provide a community of support. CIS staff ensure that students have everything they need to engage in learning.

YOUTH ADVOCATE PROGRAMS INC.

Like so many youth today, Blessyn’s life changed in an instant. The sudden loss of her mom made her feel depressed, resentful, and impulsive. She started acting out and began fighting in school. Blessyn was headed for trouble until the pivotal moment when her school referred her to Youth Advocate Programs (YAP), Inc. In short, YAP is a community-based alternative to residential care, youth incarceration, and residential child welfare and behavioral health care. YAP gives program participants like Blessyn access to neighborhood-based Youth Advocates and Behavioral Health services, empowering them to see their strengths and connecting them with tools to make positive choices. After completing YAP’s program, nearly 90% of participants remain in their communities — arrest-free. YAP works! We ask that you place this new YAP PSA campaign titled “I Couldn’t Find My Way, But I’m Not Lost” in :15, :30 and :60 lengths in your active on-air PSA rotation. It is an example of what is possible…how young people’s lives are improving, and youth justice, child welfare, and behavioral health systems are transforming.

F.A.S.T American Stroke Association PSA

Most adults in the U.S. (and stroke survivors) do not know the F.A.S.T. warning signs of stroke, and that stroke is largely treatable if you call 911 as soon as you recognize the symptoms. This important new PSA, featuring actresses Susan Lucci and Jennie Garth, NBA player Paul George, and NFL player Bobby Wagner sharing their personal connection to stroke, inspires others to “honor someone you love” by learning the stroke warning signs with F.A.S.T. About 1 in 4 adults worldwide will have a stroke in their lifetime. It is the fifth leading cause of death and a leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the U.S. Stroke can happen to anyone, at any age. Be ready to spot a stroke F.A.S.T. and help save a life. If you see Face drooping, Arm weakness or Speech difficulty, it’s Time to call 911.
