Update 8:52 p.m. EST Jan. 12: Lisa Marie Presley was the only daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley. Her mother announced the death in a statement provided to The Associated Press on Thursday night.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Priscilla Presley said. “She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known.”

Lisa Marie Presley helped oversee her famous father’s estate and also pursued a music career in the early 2000s, the Los Angeles Times reported.

According to TMZ, a housekeeper found Presley unresponsive inside her bedroom in the Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas on Thursday morning.

“Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie,” Priscilla Presley said in a statement provided to CNN by a representative of the family. “They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.”

Lisa Marie Presley was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on Feb. 1, 1968. She lived most of her life in the limelight, as her father’s fans followed the details of her birth, the Times reported. Tabloids wrote about her romances and marriages to singer Michael Jackson and actor Nicolas Cage.

Her parents divorced in October 1973.

When Elvis Presley died on Aug. 16, 1977, his daughter was the lone heir to “the King’s” estate. Her mother became the executor of his estate and co-founded Elvis Presley Enterprises, according to the newspaper.

Update 6:35 p.m. EST Jan. 12: Priscilla Presley said in a statement that her 54-year-old daughter was taken to a California hospital, according to The Associated Press.

“My beloved daughter Lisa Marie was rushed to the hospital. She is now receiving the best care,” Priscilla Presley said Thursday night. “Please keep her and our family in your prayers. We feel the prayers from around the world, and ask for privacy during this time.”

Original report: Emergency personnel responded to a home in Calabasas, California, at about 10:37 a.m. PST, Los Angeles County Fire Department. Capt. Sheila Kelliher confirmed to the Los Angeles Times. At the home, the 54-year-old Presley was suffering cardiac arrest, Kelliher said, and was transported to an area hospital.

Presley was also having trouble breathing, the newspaper reported, citing an unnamed source.

Presley’s manager had “no comment at this time” when contacted Thursday by the Times.

TMZ was the first outlet to report Presley’s hospitalization. According to the website, CPR and epinephrine were administered and paramedics regained a pulse before transporting Presley to the hospital.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to Variety that officers responded to an incident involving a woman in her 50s at a residence on Normandy Drive in Calabasas. She was then transported to a local hospital for further care, the entertainment website reported.

Presley’s condition was unclear, TMZ reported.

Presley has been living at the home of her former husband, Danny Keough, since selling her Calabasas home after the 2020 suicide of their 27-year-old son, Benjamin Keough, according to the Times. The couple, who married in 1988 and were divorced in 1994, have another child together, actor Riley Keough, the newspaper reported.

Presley married singer Michael Jackson after her 1994 divorce. She also married actor Nicolas Cage and music producer Michael Lockwood.

Lockwood and Presley welcomed twin daughters Harper and Finley in 2008, according to People.

Presley attended the Golden Globe awards ceremony Tuesday night with her mother, Priscilla Presley, Fox News reported.

She also appeared with her mother last June at a hand-and-footprint ceremony at the Hollywood Walk of Fame, according to the Times. Riley Keough also attended the ceremony.

Austin Butler won the award for best actor in a motion picture drama for playing Elvis Presley in the Baz Luhrmann movie “Elvis,” according to the Times.

Presley’s last online post was on Instagram. She dedicated it to her son, Benjamin Keough, who died in July 2020, according to Fox News.

Like her father, Lisa Marie Presley has recorded music, KTLA-TV reported. Her album, “To Whom It May Concern,” rose to No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200 singles charts and earned a gold certification. A 2005 album, “Now What,” peaked at No. 9, according to Billboard.
