‘Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)’ rapper Silento charged with murder in cousin’s shooting death

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia rapper Silento, best known for his 2015 hit song “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae),” is facing a murder charge after his cousin was shot and killed in DeKalb County, authorities said.

According to WSB-TV, the deadly shooting occurred early Jan. 21 on Deep Shoals Circle. Police arrived to find Frederick Rooks, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, the news outlet reported. Authorities pronounced him dead.

After reviewing surveillance footage captured by neighbors’ doorbell cameras, investigators identified several vehicles that had been at the scene, WSB-TV reported. Authorities eventually connected Rooks’ shooting to his cousin, Silento, whose real name is Ricky Lamar Hawk, according to the news outlet.

Police arrested Hawk, 23, on a murder charge Monday, WSB-TV reported. He remains in the DeKalb County Jail.
